Indian product certification BIS certification

"BIS" in BIS certification stands for Bureau of Indian Standards, It is India's national certification body under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution. On April 1, 1987, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) officially replaced the Indian Standards Institute (ISI) as the statutory national standards and certification authority in India, and the ISI certification and logo were retained.

Basic overview of BIS certification

Application scope of BIS certification

图片2.pngBIS certification is divided into three types according to different product types, including mandatory ISI certification, CRS certification and voluntary certification. The BIS certification system has been in place for more than 50 years and covers more than 1,000 products. Products on the mandatory list must obtain BIS certification (ISI mark registration certification) before they can be sold in India.

BIS is a third-party certification body. Products certified by BIS will bear ISI label, which has extensive influence in India and neighboring countries and enjoys good reputation as a reliable guarantee of product quality. Once a product is marked with the "ISI mark ", it means that it meets the relevant Indian standards and consumers can buy it with confidence.

BIS certification classification

At present, BIS certification is divided into three categories:

1. Compulsory ISI logo type certification (product testing + initial factory inspection + post-certification supervision), mainly including cement, food, automobile parts, steel products and other categories;

2. BIS Compulsory Registration System (CRS) (product testing + post-certification supervision), mainly covering tablet computers, microwave ovens, wireless keyboards, printer power adapters, LED lights, lithium batteries, mobile power supplies, mobile phones and smart card readers. ≤10kVA uninterruptible power supply/inverter, 32 inches and below the size of rear projection /LCD/LED TV, etc.

3. Products other than BIS voluntary certification, compulsory mark certification and registration certification can apply.

2. The Manufacturer's factory must be equipped with the infrastructure to test all approved products to the relevant Indian standards.

Certification mode: sample test + registration and certification
