JIS certification

JIS: Japanese Industrial Standards are standards for Japanese industrial activities coordinated and issued by the Japan Industrial Standards Board (JISC). Provided by the Japan Standards Association (JSA). The JISC is composed of many national committees and plays a vital role in regulating activities throughout Japan.

The goal of the Japan Standards Association (JSA) is to "educate the public on the standardization and unification of industrial standards, thus contributing to the improvement of technological level and production efficiency".

JIS certification is applicable

According to the provisions of the Japanese Industrial Standardization Law, the objects of JIS certification cover various industrial fields except for the specific standards or technical specifications of drugs, pesticides, chemical fertilizers, silk, food and other agricultural and forestry products. As of the end of July 2007, there were 10,124 JIS standards in force. Product manufacturers must pass a compliance assessment to obtain a certificate of compliance.

JIS certificate validity period

5 years. If you want to continue the JIS certificate after the expiration, you need to renew the JIS certificate.

JIS certification mark

There are three types of signs:

JIS certification process

The JIS certification process consists of the following five steps:

- Certification Application

- Product testing

- Factory audit (as appropriate)

- Certificate Issuance

- Stickers the JIS logo on the product

The certification authority will send inspectors to the factory to review its quality system. To maintain the validity of the JIS certificate, subsequent reviews shall be conducted every three years, including new product testing and change reviews. From the application for certification to the issuance of the certificate, the normal processing cycle is generally 6-9 months, and the working cycle will be extended if it does not meet the provisions.

Depending on the type of product certification, a factory audit may be required.

The factory audit will be conducted by a Registered Certification Body (RCB). Product testing must also be carried out in laboratories under the RCB. If the manufacturer has its own in-house laboratory, testing can be done during the factory audit.
