Organic content standard, OCS certification. One of the current organic cotton certification systems.
The Organic Content Standard is an organic certification standard launched by the Textile Exchange, an American non-profit organization, abbreviated as OCS certification. The organic content standard is a certification that regulates the entire organic industry chain by tracking the cultivation of organic raw materials. Textile Exchange has said OCS will replace the existing OE(Organic Exchange) blend standard. In addition, OCS factory inspection will be applied to the verification of all organic growing materials, not just organic cotton.
The organic content standard can be applied to all non-food products containing 5 percent to 100 percent organic ingredients. Can accurately verify the organic material content in the final product.
Subject to certification: non-food products made from approved organic ingredients.
Audit scope: product quality system, organic production layout and planning, organic production process risk point control
Audit result: OCS is divided into qualification certificate and sales certificate. Qualification certificate is valid for one year, annual supervision and audit, sales certificate for each batch of products of organic cotton certificate.
There are three main reasons: pollution from the cotton and textile industries, and the health of consumers.
Cotton: A quarter of the world's pesticides are used on just 2.5% of the agricultural area.
Pollution in the textile industry: processes and substances used in textile processing, most of which pollute the environment.
Consumer health: Residues of pollutants can endanger the health of consumers.
OCS certification can be applied to all non-food products containing 5 to 100 percent organic ingredients. This standard can be used to verify the organic material content in the final product.
It can be used to trace the raw material from source to the final product and the process is certified by a trusted third-party organization. Standards will be transparent and consistent in fully independent assessment of organic content in products. This standard can be used as a business tool between companies to help companies ensure that the products they buy or pay for meet their requirements. And OCS certification applies to all kinds of organic growing materials, not just organic cotton.
The OCS standard is applied to products containing 5 percent to 100 percent organic ingredients.
Ocs-certified products may use "Made with X% Organically Grown Material" or "Contains X%
Organically Grown Material "and refer to organic content standards. Where X identifies the organic source contained in the final product
Final proportion of Material, "material" being organic (e.g. cotton or coconut)
If the certified body needs to hang the organic material label on the final product, it should refer to the organic content standard for use:
l“Made with/ Contains 100% Organically Grown Material
"Only for products containing 100% organic origin
Material. The OCS 100 identifier can be used.
l“Made with/ Contains Organically Grown Material
"Applicable to products containing more than 95 percent organic ingredients
And the remaining proportion of raw materials and organic raw materials are not the same kind. In this case, the OCS 100 identifier can be used.
l“Made with/ Contains X% Organically Grown Material
"Suitable for products containing 5%-95% have
Machine raw materials. There are no requirements for the remaining ingredients. In this case, the OCS hybrid identity can be used.
